Full Description

Former manse, and farmsteading, depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition shows a house with attached gardens, a Z-plan steading to the southeast and at least four other rectangular buildings. The OS name Book describes Old Manse as 'a large farmsteading and dwelling house the property of the Earl of Seafield....once the manse connected with the Old Kirk now in ruins'. By the time of the 2nd edition map a new manse had been built on part of the garden, additions had been made to the steading and two of the rectangular buildings had been removed. There have since been further alterations including infilling of the steading court. A standing building survey of the outbuilding close to the road was carried out by MAS in February 2019 ahead of its proposed demolition. This may have been a small cart shed, and may have related to the manse itself, perhaps as a gig shed, rather than to the agricultural aspects of the farm.
