Full Description

Archway dated 1831, in the style of William Robetson, architect, Elgin. It is a tall round-headed archway, built of rusticated ashlar with polished ashlar flanking pedestrian entrances (that to the left blocked), and harled rear. There is a cornice blocked wallhead to the main arch with plain blocking course to the flanking walls. An inscribed plaque is situated above the pedestrian entrance. A market place was established in Low Street after the flooding of the old market at the foot of Carmelite Street in 1829.
