Full Description

Buildings used during its lifetime as a hotel, house, shop and warehouse, now disused. The property facing onto Deveronside dates to the later 19th century, and is a 2-storey and attic, 5-bay building, comprising dwellings and shop. It is built of local dark whinstone with red sandstone dressings, and is harled on the south return gable. It has a centrally positioned door with sidelights with flanking doors, at left (south) as compact 3-bay shop with centre door and windows and at at right a doorway and window. Regular first floor fenestration, the centre bay rising as gable with worn panel and apex stack. Two canted dormers. Glazing is 4-pane in timber sash and case windows. Coped end stacks and slate roof. The property facing onto High Shore is suggested to date to the early 19th century, but may have earlier as origins as at the neighbouring property, Gordon's Granaries (NJ66SE0039). It is situated at the rear of, and is connected to, the Deveronside property. It is a 2 storey building, built on a sloping site, constructed of mixed random rubble. Regular 5-bay rear elevation, bays 1, 3, 5 as raised basement lights with long first floor openings above. Bays 2 and 4 are tall doorways. There is a blocked opening, rear and side wallhead stacks and a piended slate roof.
