Full Description
Remains of a castle erected in 12th century/early 13th century. It was the stronghold of the Comyns. Only foundations survive which suggest an early Norman type of motte or earthwork. An entrance clearly visible with a vaulted masonry-lined pit to its left, a garderobe vent visible to the west. A broad earth and stone rampart runs to edge of cliff and abutting onto its north side are the outlines of a rectangular building. North of the entrance along cliff edge are the remains of buildings 22 m long. On the east are the outlines of a building 9.5m by 3m. Pottery of 14th/15th century date was found during preliminary excavations.
