Full Description
Former manse, still in residential use, built in 1835-36 with a late 19th century wing. It was renamed Strathord after it stopped being a manse, but continues to be known as Manse of Ord. It is shown on the 1st edition OS map as a shallow T-plan manse with two L-plan steading buildings to the west, the largest of which has an attached horsemill, and a walled garden to the east. On the 2nd edition OS map the manse has a wing added to the east, the smaller building to the west has been reduced in size and the horsemill removed. Current OS maps show some further alterations to the former manse, the smaller building to the west is depicted as roofless with only three walls remaining and the larger steading building has been converted to cottages, named Mansefield Cottages. The C-listed manse building is a two-storey L-plan house of irregular cruciform plan, and is harled with tooled granite margins. The original east-facing symmetrically fronted three-bay house has a shallow two-storey rear wing. This original frontage is largely masked by a two-storey wing with the ground floor drawing room lit by a bipartite in the east gable. The wide main doorway is in the re-entrant angle. Four- and 12-pane glazing is used and there are coped end and wallhead stacks to the slate roofs. There is a late 19th century staircase in the interior and a simple cornice to the ground floor drawing room.
