Full Description

House, farmstead and dovecot. The greater part of the mansion of Auchaber House was demolished in 1927. The single storey west wing of early 19th Century date with twin bow ends was altered and raised as the farmhouse. A dovecot at the farm dates to the 18th Century. It is circular, plain harled with conical roof, and the lower floor is divided approximately two thirds by one third by a curved wall. There are two rows of stone nesting boxes in the upper floor. The farmstead is depicted on the OS 1st edition map as three separate buildings, one an L-shape, with a long range to its north. Another single building lies north of that. To the east of the house is another L-shaped building. By the 2nd edition the steading has become a Z-shape with main axis north-south. Two small building lie on the south side of an enclosure, south of the L-shaped building.
