Full Description

Remains of a quarry and building depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition shows a small rectangular building with a quarried area to the north. The building is no longer shown on the 2nd edition map which annotates the quarried areas as 'Old Quarries'. Recorded by RCAHMS site visit in 2002. The western quarry was then partly infilled, but measured circa 60 m by 15m the depth ranging from 5 m to 1.5 m. Walkover survey in 2022 by Mott Macdonald in advance of 33kV refurbishment works (NJ64NW0147) identified no obvious defined quarry, but there remains an area of disturbed ground with concentrations of fractured slate-like rock.
