Full Description

Remains of a cairn which was partially excavated in circa 1870. In the centre was found a conical pile of stones circa 1.52m in diameter by 1.21m high. Within this was found a chisel-shaped piece of rusted iron and a piece of possible whetstone. Layers of clay with calcined bone and ashes were found. Near edge of mound, within a patch of clay, was a decorated beaker which had been placed on a pedestal of stone or slate. No cist was found. Bogdan (2008) suggested that later use as a motte cannot be entirely ruled out.
