Full Description
Remains of an extensive 18th century house comprising a mid 18th century, 2-storey L-plan east wing with skewputts and a piend roof. It contains a kitchen and a good late 18th century chimney piece. The main part of the house was demolished in 1939. To the north is a pyramid roofed outbuilding with fine James Gordon lintel with crest. An old photograph shows a long 18th century vernacular house and there was another pyramid roofed outbuilding on the west. East of the house is a walled garden with barn in the east side and low ball-capped gatepiers. This is possibly the site of a manor: the estate of Badenscoth was purchased in 1603 by George Gordon who passed it on to his son Patrick in 1634. He erected a house here in circa 1644, though there may have been an earlier house in the area.
Period Notes
Estate purchased in 1603 by George Gordon; passed on to son in 1634; first documented house built c.1644, but may have been earlier house; present house built mid-18th century; rebuilding of 18th century house c.1930. Old notes state 'Main part demolished 1939.' but found no evidence to back this up.
Listed 15/02/1982.
