Full Description

Remains of a deserted farmstead with a whin-mill stone lying derelict in the yard, a crusher stone of grey granite with shaft passage 0.17m diameter. The farmstead is depicted on the OS 1st edition map as a U-shaped steading, open to the north-east, with an enclosure to the southeast. The 2nd edition map shows the same general pan although there have been some alterations. The remains of the farmstead lie within a clearing in an area of recently planted woodland and comprise an L-plan range containing a threshing barn, probable stables, and a two-bay cart-shed. Its blue slate roof is pierced by sky-lights and there are roof vents on the ridge. Pre-afforestation survey by S Farrell in 2002 found no trace of the millstone. The steading is L-plan, rubble built with a slate roof with roof vents on the ridgeline. The building has been modified internally to use with associated sheep dip pens in the yard. Lintels to the doorways are of cast iron.
