Full Description
Remains of a croft depicted on OS 1st edition map as two buildings, one a long range divided into two compartments. It appears to have been abandoned by the time of the 2nd edition. Part of the Bennachie Colony, which had its origins in the 1830s, and was established on 'commonty' land shared between nine estates. RCAHMS field visit in 2003 recorded the remains of the cottage, which lies within an area of clear-felled woodland on the southeast flank of Bennachie. It has been reduced to a pile of loose rubble measuring about 12.8m by 5.6m and standing up to 1.5m in height. There is a small outshot at the west-northwest end. Survey was carried out 2009-10 as part of the Bennachie Landscapes project.
