Full Description

A group of four ring-ditch houses of prehistoric date. They are visible as upstanding features in a mature conifer plantation on the east flank of Bennachie. The northwest house is 17 m in diameter, its walls defined by a stony bank up to 4 m in thickness and 0.7 m in height, with a shallow ditch measuring 2.7 m wide around the inside edge of the bank. The southwest house is oval, circa 16 m in diameter, defined by a stony bank up to 3 m in thickness and up to 1 m in height. The northeast house is 13 m in diameter, scooped into the hillside. Field clearance heaps and some stony banks show amongst the trees. Four hut circles were recorded by FC survey ahead of forestry operations in 2007.
