Full Description
Burgh and village of Insch. In the 19th century it had monthly cattle fairs and hiring fairs every May and November. the OS 1st edition map shows a large village around a crossroads which included two schools, a smithy, police station, parish church (NJ62NW0015), free church, congregational chapel, public house and gas works. Defence of Britain Project recorded that during the Second World War there was a POW camp next to the football field, with prisoners housed in pre-fabricated huts. Soldiers were also billeted at many houses in the village.
