Full Description

Farmstead depicted on the 1st edition OS map of 1867 as an L-plan steading surrounded by four other rectangular buildings. On the 2nd edition map of 1888, the L-plan steading and two of the rectangular buildings appear to have been conjoined to form a C-plan steading open to the southwest with a horse-mill attached to the north face, with new buildings to the south and west. The steading survives, but has been converted to residential accommodation. The horse-mill has been removed, the building to the south survives, but four new buildings have added to the west and north. Described in the sale particulars of Tonley Estate in 1947 as follows: 'The farm house of granite and slate comprises 3 bedrooms, sitting room, kitchen and dairy. The farm steading, of similar structure, includes open manure court, 4-stall stable, turnip house, 2 byres for 16 each, threshing floor, threshing mill, granary, cart shed, implement shed, workshop, root house and chaumer'.
