Full Description

Mid-20th century former farmhouse and site of an earlier farmstead. The 1st and 2nd edition OS maps show a farmstead at this location comprising a long rectangular steading (aligned north - south) with enclosed yard at the north end, well to the northeast, and, at the south end, 2 small rectangular buildings (one to the east, and one to the west). By the 5th edition OS map of the mid-20th century, these buildings have been removed and replaced by a new farmhouse, in the southeast corner of the site, with a smaller steading in the southwest corner. Described in the sale particulars of Tonley Estate in 1947 as follows: 'The farm house is built of granite with slate roof and provides 2 bedrooms, sitting room, kitchen, pantry and milk house. The farm steading is similarly built and contains byre for 5, root house and small barn'. Named as 'Linn' on the 1st edition OS map, but shown as 'Lyne' from the 2nd edition OS map onwards.
