Full Description
Farmstead, built in 1862 and still in use, depicted on the 1st edition OS map as an L-plan steading with rectangular farmhouse to the south. On the 2nd edition map of 1888, the steading has been extended to the east forming an S-plan building. Today, the north wing of the steading has been removed. The farmhouse is also still in use. Described in the sale particulars of Tonley Estate in 1947 as follows. 'The farm house stands back from the road but is easy of access. Main bus services pass the door. The house is substantially built of stone with slate roof, and of an attractive appearance. The accommodation provided is three bedrooms, sitting room, kitchen, milk house and pantry. The farm steading, placed at the rear of the house, is also conveniently arranged and includes a 2-stall stable, straw barn, threshing floor, byre for 12, turnip house, small granary and cart shed'.
