Full Description

Farmstead, still in use, depicted on the 1st edition OS map of 1867 as an F-plan steading with farmhouse to the east and a rectangular building and possible pond to the south. On the 2nd edition map of 1888, the building to the south has been removed. Today, the farmhouse is shown to have been altered (or replaced by) to a small T-plan building. Much of the steading survives, except the south wing, but the building has been extended to the north. The possible pond is no longer shown. Described in the sale particulars of Tonley Estate in 1947 as follows: 'The farmhouse is a detached residence built of granite and slate, and comprises two bedrooms and attic room, sitting room, kitchen, milk house and pantry. The downstairs rooms are panelled. The farm steading is substantial and adequate for a holding of this size and comprises Turnip House, Byre for 24, Loose Box, Granary, Threshing Floor, Straw Barn, Hay Barn, Cart Shed, Hen House and Water Mill'.
