Full Description

Farmstead, depicted on 1st edition OS map of 1867 as an L-plan steading with farmhouse and three rectangular buildings to the north. All of these buildings have been demolished by the time of the 2nd edition OS map of 1888. A farm with the same name is shown a short distance to the north of the earlier complex, consisting of a large L-plan steading surrounded by four rectangular buildings and a farmhouse with two dams shown to the east. Today, the steading is shown to have been extended and the farmhouse survive but the dams are not shown. Described in the sale particulars of Tonley Estate in 1947 as follows: 'The farmhouse is built of stone with slate roof and comprises three bedrooms, kitchen, milk house. The farm steading is mostly built of stone and conveniently arranged near to the house, includes hay loft, 2-bay cart shed, implement house, 3-stall stable, hay loft, byre for 32, threshing floor, straw barn, granary, turnip house and meal house'.
