Full Description
The remains of a small farmstead are visible on a vertical aerial photograph taken in 1988. It is depicted on the OS map of 1867 as two rectangular buildings with an L-shaped enclosure to the south and a small mill pond to the east. By the 1888 edition is has become disused. It was visited by RCAHMS in 1998. The remains comprise the footings of two buildings within what has apparently been a rectangular enclosure. The main building, which is probably a cottage, is set roughly centrally within the enclosure and measures 12.5m from east to west by 5.3m transversely over clay-mortared walls 0.5m in thickness and up to 0.6m in height. It has a central entrance in its south side and an outshot and what was probably a pen are attached to the east and west ends respectively. The second building, which is largely obscured by field-gathered stones, is set into the northwest corner of the enclosure and measures about 16m from east to west by 4.5m overall. This building contained a water-powered wheel.
