Full Description

Remains of farmstead, farmhouse and whin-mill. The farmstead is shown on the 1st edition OS map of 1867 as a large C-plan steading with a smaller L-plan steading to the south creating a semi-enclosed courtyard. A further L-plan building is shown to the north, with an L-plan farmhouse lying within a garden area to the northwest. On the 2nd edition map, all of the buildings appear to remain the same with the exception of the L-plan building to the south which has been altered to a rectangular building and attached to the east wing of the main steading building. The steading is shown as roofless on current maps, while only the north and east walls of the building to the north appear to survive. The farmhouse appears to survive and is roofed but is partly derelict. Both the whin-mill and the course are still in existence but not in working order. The stone has been removed and dumped near the farm buildings. The course measures 6.90 m, the groove in which the stone moved measuring 38 cm wide by 45 cm deep. Described in the Aberdeenshire OS Name Books, 1865-1871 Aberdeenshire volume 64 (OS1/1/64/31) as: 'A farmsteading, dwelling house, two, offices, partly one and partly two storeys. The whole slated, and in good repair. Property of Sir A. Grant, and unoccupied.'.
