Full Description

Remains of a 17th to 19th century designed landscape. An inscribed stone, possibly a gravestone, was reported in 1999 as having been found on the estate some 15 years previously, but location of the findspot is unknown. Desk based assessment and walkover survey in 2012 as part of Keig School Community Cultural Heritage Project identified the remains of a road with bridge footings and ford (NJ61621917), a mill site with lade ((NJ61511930) and old river channel. In July-August 2012 the Bennachie Landscapes Fieldwork Group carried out small scale excavations across the 18th century road that linked the Forbe's original base at Drumminor with the present Forbes Castle and the remains of the mill lade and mill stance. This may have been a short-lived saw mill in use for only a few years during the first half of the 19th century.
