Full Description

Farmstead, still in use, depicted on historic OS maps. The OS 1st edition (25 inch 1865) shows a U-plan steading open to the south, a house with attached garden to the southwest, a small building to the south and a rectangular pond to the north. By the time of the 2nd edition (published 1900) the small building had been removed, a long rectangular building added on the east side of the garden, and a small rectangular building added on the northeast corner of the steading. Current maps indicate that the addition to the steading is now disused, the building alongside the garden has been removed and a rectangular building added to the north of the steading. A building survey of the steading was carried out in April 2013 prior to conversion. The building dates to the early to mid 19th century and measure 27.2m long and 13.6m wide, constructed in one phase of large pink and grey granite blocks. It originally included a water-powered mill in the west part of the building, powered by a lade from the Beltie Burn to the east. The wheel (which would have been on the exterior of the west wall where blocked apertures are visible) was removed but the lade and stone race survive. The lade is now culverted south of the property.
