Full Description

Farmstead, still in use, depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition shows a U-plan steading, open to the east, with a cottage to the south, and four other rectangular buildings to west and south, two of which appear to be unroofed. By the time of the 2nd edition OS map, these had been removed and another rectangular building added westW of the steading. Current maps indicate that the smallest structure has since been removed and the steading court had been partially infilled by building. A building survey of the steading and outbuilding to the west was carried out in March 2013 prior to conversion. The steading is 24.5m long with wings to north and south 6.3m wide. The walls, 0.55m thick are constructed of pink and grey granite blocks. The interior courtyard wall is of smaller granite blocks. It appears to have been built in one phase. Two blocked apertures in the north wall of the north wing may have originally held the mechanism for a threshing mill. The building to the west of the steading is aligned north-south and measures 9.5m in length and 5.5m in width wide walls 1.5m in height. It is constructed of granite blocks and has two large doors in the west wall, suggesting use for machinery storage.
