Full Description

Mansion, now derelict (also known as Glassaugh). The earliest part of the existing mansion appears to date from circa 1770 and it probably lies on or near the site of an earlier manor which belonged to the Ogilvy family in the 16th century. It was acquired by John Abercrombie circa 1650 and remained in the family until early 20th century. Architect Archibald Simpson (1840) incorporated 1770 classical house which in turn had incorporated 17th century work. The Mansion is now gutted and little survives except some later 18th century raised and fielded window shutters, these remains were probably built by General James Abercrombie between 1759 and his death in 1781 and extended and re-cast for Arthur Abercrombie in 1840. There is a lodge to the north-west, linked to the mansion with a passage (NJ56SE0124), a walled garden to the north (NJ56SE0125) and a dovecot to the east (NJ56SE0127).
