Full Description

War memorial, commemorating World War I and II. The architect was John Wittet of Elgin, and it was built in 1919-20. It is an octagonal domed polished sandstone ashlar monument on a stepped base. A rear door gives access to small internal cell. Names are inscribed in granite panels on the sides, which are flanked with short angle pilasters and linked at the base and entablature by a continuous string course, although the base course is broken by the rear entrance. Above the top string course is a mutuled cornice. The wallhead is defined by a moulded slate cornice, linking pediments in alternate facets. The dome has a simple finial. The foundation stone was laid by Countess of Seafield, August 1920, the memorial unveiled on 16 December 1920 by Lt.Col. J. Dawson, dedicated by the Rev W.G.G. M'Lean.
