Full Description

A four-arched railway viaduct built by Patrick M. Barnett in 1884-86. The arch over Seafield Street is flanked by wide piers accommodating pedestrian passages. It is constructed of bullfaced rubble, with ashlar dressings and some brick facings. It has brick arch rings, corbelled buttress and detailing to the flanks. The arch piers accommodating pedestrian passages are linked by a blocked band course. The parapet is coped with ashlar. It was constructed by the Great North of Scotland Railway, and forms part of the Tochieneal to Garmouth section of the Moray Firth Coastal Line. The route skirting Cullen House was necessitated by the refusal of Seafield Estates to allow the railway track to encroach on its policies. The railway is now closed. To the West is the North Castle Street viaduct (NJ56NW0043), a part of the same line.
