Full Description

Remains of a rectangular building and enclosure that is depicted on the 1st edition OS map. This building appears to have been reduced in size by the time of the 2nd edition map but a larger rectangular building had been added to the north. The remains were recorded during site visit in 2022 as part of the SCAPE Coastal Zone Assessment Survey. The northernmost building measures 12 m x 6 m, constructed from angular local stone, mortar bonding and cement pointing, the seaward wall surviving to a height of 2 m. There is a central door and two large windows either side, the quoins around door and windows of concrete. There is no sign of internal division or fireplace. The east and back walls are demolished to one or two courses high. There is a concrete forestair on the west gable wall for access to loft. The southern building is almost square, of stone, and with a doorway at the northwest corner on the seaward side. The walls survive up to 1 - 1.5m high. Inside there are two putlog holes indicating there once was an upper floor or loft. A niche to the east of doorway measures m high x 0.5m wide.
