Full Description
Portsoy war memorial stands outside the hall (NJ56NE0096) on Seafield Street. It is a rectangular block with a flared base standing on a two-step base of rough hewn granite blocks. It is surmounted by a kilted soldier with Glengarry, standing head bowed holding an inverted rifle. The statue is carved from silver-grey Creetown granite. It commemorates the dead of both World War I and II. Below the main inscription on the front is a carved wreath. The memorial is surrounded by a small wrought-iron enclosure. It was unveiled 11 November 1923 by Colonel J. J. George, of Macduff, Deputy Lieutenant and County Convener, dedicated by Rev A. G. Campbell, and was rededicated 22 June 1947.
