Full Description

Dovecot, a one-chambered circular building with two string courses. It is situated in the centre of a rectangular court of farm buildings (now Huntly Lodge Farm NJ54SW0048) and built of pinned boulders with red sandstone dressings and a conical slate roof truncated by an oculus. It has two rat courses and contains 435 nesting boxes and the remains of a potence (revolving central ladder). It was suggested in the 1950s, after comparison with examples in Fife, that this dovecot may date to the 16th century however this has not been proven, and it is generally thought to dated to the mid 18th century (circa 1752).

Period Notes
Suggested date circa 1752. Listed 16/04/1971.
