Full Description
Farmstead, still in use, depicted on historic OS maps. The OS 1st edition (25 inch 1871) shows a group of four buildings, including an L-plan and a rectangular building arranged around a court open to the north, and another long rectangular building with attached horsemill on its west side. Two of the smaller buildings may have been disused. By the time of the OS 2nd edition (25 inch published 1901) many of these buildings had been replaced, including most of the former U-plan steading and the smaller buildings. The 2nd edition shows a new U-plan steading (on a new site) open to the south east, and with a projecting structure on its west side. The horsemill has been removed, although the long building remains. A house has been built to the south west of the new steading, with a smaller building to its west. To the northeast of the farmstead is a mill dam, pond and sluice. A small square structure - a wheel house - stands to the north east of the pond. Current maps indicate that this building is now derelict and the pond is no longer water filled. A standing building survey was carried out by MAS in November 2016. This is a good example of a late 19th century steading of estate construction. The smaller steading, depicted on the 1871 OS map, was sold in 1886, and the new steading built from circa 1891.
