Full Description
Remains of a cairn and dyke. These lie near to the telecommunications relay station, but are apparently not related to it. The cairn is a spread of stones approximately 6 m across. It is attached to a denuded dyke which runs south-west for 20-30 m. Running north from the cairn is another possible length of denuded dyke. A walkover survey was carried out by MAS in January 2013 in advance of proposed development. The cairn could not be located at the given NGR (NJ5450732615), although line of an overgrown dyke with occasional visible stone was observed circa 35 m to the south. This ran east-northeast to west-southwest and was traced for over 90m extending downhill to the west. It appeared to be circa 1 m in width but only circa 0.3 m in height. A stone spread circa 5-6 m in diameter was identified to the south of the dyke extending between NJ5448232574 and NJ5448032570). It was overgrown with heather and grass. The dyke may have been stone clearance along and denoting a boundary. The possible cairn is either part of this linear spread or the remnant of a boundary cairn.
