Full Description

The farmstead of Whitelums is depicted on the historic 1st and 2nd edition OS maps as a U-plan steading with open court to the east. A small single building lies on the east side in the centre. The farmhouse lies to the north. To the southwest is a pond with a lade running to the east end of the south wing of the steading. A whin-mill is located close to the main road, and is one of the best known examples of this class of whin-mill. Formerly there was a circular stone with shaft in place, although the wood was decaying, and a grooved course which originally had stone lining it. In 2022 the mill stone was reported to be on the east side of the main road in a spoil heap (NJ 52062 32257).
