Full Description

Remains of a cairn. The OS Name Book records that traditionally this was the burial place of a moss-trooper caught and executed here (moss-troopers were brigands / robbers in the mid 17th Century). It is depicted on the OS maps from the 1st edition map onwards, where it shown on the line of an old trackway and parish boundary between the former parishes of Kennethmont to the west and Insch to the east. An OS site visit 1961 noted that most of the stones had been removed and only an unremarkable low stone and turf mound remained. The cairn was not visible at the time of RCAHMS site visit in 1996, and may have been destroyed. It is overgrown and covered with brash.
