Full Description
Building within the historic core of Huntly, depicted on historic OS maps A standing building survey was undertaken in April 2007 by MAS prior to proposed demolition. The small building had been altered considerably since it was built circa 1840, with a number of blocked openings recorded. Latterly it had been converted to a shop. Further observations following removal of internal flooring recorded original cobbled flooring. Evidence, including the position of posts and a drain to the rear, indicates that this belonged to a stable or byre, and that it is unlikely to pre-date the 19th century. Although built with a hearth to be intended for use as a shop or dwelling, No. 47 appears initially to have been used as a stable, possibly only for a short time, the cobbles subsequently being covered with flooring for the shop.
