Full Description

Restored castle. It is one of the earliest examples of a Z-plan castle (dated 1561) it is a 3-storey tower house with circular angle towers, one with turret stair in re-entrant angle. There are remains of a yett and draw-bar hole, gun-loops, a shallow stone sink with projecting stone spout in kitchen, garderobes, an aumbry, newel stair and crow-stepped gables. A later long wing was added to the east side but has now been demolished. The castle was originally surrounded by a moat of which there is now no trace.
