Full Description

Farmstead, still in use, depicted on the historic OS maps. Shown on the 1st edition map as a U-shaped steading open to the southeast with three other buildings to the southeast. By the time of the 2nd edition map two of the three buildings have been removed, and one reduced in size, and five new buildings added, including one on the east side of the steading court a rectangular bothy/chaumer. Both the 1st and 2nd editions show a mill pond, dam and sluice to the west of the steading. Current OS maps indicate that the house and steading buildings remain, but the other small buildings have been removed, and the pond infilled. The steading is early to mid 19th century, quadrangular plan incorporating a threshing mill, with a large start and awe wheel which drives the threshing mill. Ball finials at gable tops. The 6-spoke single ring start and awe wheel measures 0.61 m by 3.50 m. The farmhouse is single storey, of rough granite ashlar with pinnings, straight skews and canted dormers, built in the mid 19th century.
