Full Description
Parish church, built in 1815, and its associated graveyard. The church is rubble built and rectangular in plan, with a slated roof and a plain interior with a gallery. The belfry is dated 1635 and is initialled 'I.F.L.' for John Forbes of Leslie and 'M.J.D.' for James Douglas the minister, though it is now too weathered to decipher. The belfry contains a bell dated 1642. Each gable originally had a doorway; the east one being blocked up during the reorganisation of the church in 1897 by A. Marshall Mackenzie. The Kirk of Leslie belonged to the Diocese of Aberdeen in 1275. There is now no trace and no local knowledge of an earlier church in the vicinity except at Chapelton (MAB52909).
There is a war memorial affixed to the outer west elevation (MAB12869). Within the churchyard is the Commonwealth war grave of Private George Benzie, Gordon Highlanders, who died 27 March 1917.
