Full Description
Former hospital for contagious diseases, now in residential use. It opened in June 1898, with later additions by Walker and Duncan. However, the hospital was closed in 1932. During its use as a hospital, it was known as Alford District Hospital, Alford Isolation Hospital and Alford District Hospital for Infectious Diseases. The 2nd edition OS map (1899), shows the hospital as three buildings within a walled enclosure. The largest is a T-plan building, which is joined to a second T-plan building immediately to the East. To the North of the two buildings is a rectangular wing against the inside of the North wall. The larger T-plan building has since had an extension to the West elevation, and the smaller T-plan building has an addition filling, and projecting beyond, the North-East angle.
Period Notes
Opened in 1898, with later additions. It closed as a hospital in 1932.
