Full Description

Farmstead and former corn and saw mill, depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition shows the corn, barley and sawing Mill of Annfield comprising a U-plan steading open to the east, with two conjoined buildings to the east of the south wing of the steading, and two conjoined buildings with attached garden to the south of the steading. The layout is little changed on the 2nd edition at which time it was named Mill of Breda and annotated as a corn and saw mill. The map shows a small pond and sluice to the east of the garden . The farmhouse, dating from circa 1800, is two storey and three window, rubble built. The mill, also dating from circa 1800 is two storey with a loft, built of pinned squared rubble on a rectangular plan with a stone lean-to and a single storey, open-sided sawmill extension. The wheel was mid-breast, 0.91 m by 3.35 m. The mill has since been gutted and the wheel removed.
