Full Description
The Stothart memorial church lies on a steep slope overlooking the village of Lumphanan to the south. On the 2nd edition OS map it is depicted as the Free Church. It is a plain gothic rectangular structure harled with rough ashlar, and with a small tower and spire. It was built in 1870 by W Henderson and Son. On the western side at the front is an old stone font, said to have come from St Finian's Parish Church nearby The church is now closed. A terraced graveyard lies to the south and east on steeply sloping ground. It contains two Commonwealth war graves, of Private George Florence, Black Watch (died 23 March 1919) and Aircraftwoman Mary Brown Wyness, Women's Auxiliary Air Force (died 4 July 1942). East of the church is a former stables.
