Full Description

Remains of a settlement comprising at least four sub-circular stone-walled enclosures. All appear to be stone-walled, the northern three largely grass-covered. The southernmost structure appears to be partly quarried out of rock and stones piled round the edge with an obvious entrance in the east. To its south are a number of earthfast upright stones. The whole group is very similar to the groups at Old Kinord (NJ40SW0015) and New Kinord (NJ40SW0016) settlements of prehistoric date. The settlement was recorded during a walkover survey in July 2025 ahead of proposed woodland creation (NJ50SE0173). The walkover survey recorded two large enclosures with structures within their boundaries and a large enclosure to the south. The northernmost structure comprised a 12.7 m by 13.4 m enclosure with a bank of 1 m in width, and an internal structure at its northwestern side measuring 5.9 m by 4.9 m with a bank of 0.9 m in width; no entrances were visible in the enclosure or internal structure. The centremost structure comprised a 13.4 m by 15.7 m enclosure with an internal structure measuring circa 6 m by 5.9 m with a bank of 0.4 m in width; no entrances were visible in the enclosure or internal structure. The southernmost structure comprised a 17 m by 17.3 m enclosure with 2 m wide walls up to a height of 0.8 m, built in to the bank on its western side.
