Full Description

Farmstead, still in use, depicted on historic OS maps, and possible site of a manor. The OS 1st edition shows an U-plan steading with a building on the south side of the court and a long range and three other rectangular buildings to the south, one with attached garden enclosure. To the west of the steading is an L-plan farmhouse with garden to the south. By the time of the 2nd edition map there had been some alterations and additions to the steading. The house, probably built before 1709, is 2-storey and 5-window, harled with chamfered margins. It has a moulded panel, with coat-of-arms removed, between centre door and first floor window which is flanked by shotholes. There is a single storey and attic back wing. The interior was remodelled circa 1790/1800. A 'tunnel', part of the cellarage under the entrance hall, has been closed up in recent years. Capt Francis Ross of Auchlossan was killed at Malplaquet in 1709 and the estate was sold by his creditors in 1715. The steading is probably mainly 19th century.

Period Notes
Built in the late 17thC. Capt Ross was killed at Malplaquet in 1709 & the estate was sold by his creditors in 1715, interior remodeled 1790.
