Full Description
The farmstead is depicted on the OS map of 1867 as a rectangular building with what appears to be two circular mills, one attached to the north side and the other to the south at the western end. A pond lies to the north which may be associated with the farm. By the 1888 map edition the pond has gone and there now only appears to be the mill to the north surviving, which is the probable whin-mill. Pre 2005 the whin-mill was almost complete. The crusher stone was unusually large,1.52m in diameter, 0.35m thick, with the course 6.4m diameter and shaft hole 0.25m diameter with an iron pin 0.35m high. It was also used for crushing the lime used in the building of the neighbouring railway viaduct. Today the whin-mill is no longer evident (Sept 2005).
