Full Description
Small farmstead, still in use, depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition OS map shows a long range with well and rectangular cottage to the southwest. South of the cottage is a rectangular enclosure. The layout is unchanged on the 2nd edition which also shows a horsemill on the north side of the west end of the range. Current maps indicate that the horsemill has since been removed and the cottage extended to an L-plan. A Level 1 Standing Building Survey of the steading building to the north-east was carried out in May 2018 by MAS prior to proposed demolition. The farmhouse to the south-west at this time was recorded as a single-storey and attic rectangular-plan cottage that has been extensively renovated. The steading building is recorded as single-storey and built into the slope. Survival of interior features allows fairly confident interpretation of the functions of the areas of the building as a grain store and thresher, stable, cow byre and a cart bay.
