Full Description

Remains of a burial ground and pre-Reformation chapel, located within a walled copse. The ruins of the chapel were visible in the mid 19th century. OS in 1968 found no trace of the chapel within the walled copse apart from a high proportion of stone visible at the base of uprooted trees. The copse was used as a private burial ground by the Forbes of Corse, and three 19th century gravestones were noted. RCAHMS site visit in 1994 noted that the plantation wall encloses and partly overlays a trapezoidal turf-banked enclosure which measures 22.5 m by 18.9 m. A gap in the bank may indicate the original entrance. The grass grown footings of the chapel lie in the western half of the burial ground and measure 7.5 m by 3.1 m within a bank 0.9 m thick and 0.3 m high. Two gravestones dated 1900 and 1902 are situated within the burial ground north of the chapel. There are also broad cultivation rigs within the plantation bank to north and east of the burial ground.
