Full Description
Farmstead and B-listed house on the site of an earlier manor house. The farmstead of Walkerdales is depicted on the OS map of 1846 as a U-shaped steading with an open court to the West. Another U-shaped structure with an open court to the East lies to the West of it, along with the house. By the 1888 edition OS map, the farmstead has been altered, with the two U-shaped buildings becoming joined by extending the two North ranges towards each other. The Southern range of the Eastern block has gone, with the Eastern side being extended Southwards. Another small building, presumably a cottage, lies to the North of the farm. Today, the farm is much altered with later buildings. The house, built in 1677, is a low 2-storey, long irregular 3-bay, West facing house, with a single-storey rear wing projecting at the South-East forming an L-plan. It constructed with whitewashed and harled rubble. The off centre door in the West front is masked by a later gabled porch with a side entrance and front window, over which is a reset scrolled and carved pediment with coat of arms. There are 3 piended dormers from circa 1900 that break the wallhead, 2 small gable windows at the North and one at the South, with possibly a second blocked window. Mainly 4-pane glazing is used. It has crowstepped gables, ridge and end stacks, a slate roof and a corrugated iron roof to the rear wing and a stone ridge. There is a later continuous lean-to extension at the rear, with modern fenestration. It belonged to the Gordons of Aberlour, and was purchased from them during the latter half of the 18th century by Gordon of Letterfourie.
