Farmstead depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition shows an L-plan range with attached horsemill with two other buildings, and a house and garden to the east. By the time of the 2nd edition the range and two buildings had been joined forming an essentially quadrangular steading range. There have since been further alterations and additions and the horsemill has been removed. The house is 2-storey and 3-bay, built in circa 1730-40, possibly by James Ogilvie, master mason, with a later single-storey, single-bay wing at the West gable. The house was the property of the Gordons of Gordon Castle (NJ35NW0010), until purchased by Gordon of Cairnfield during the 18th century. Site of earlier manor or nearby. There is a modern render, with contrasting painted rendered margins. The North and South elevations are symmetrical. There is a centre door at the South, with widely-spaced narrow windows. The elevation at the North has a central shaped gable that breaks the wallhead with an attic window and a deep moulded cope to an apex stack. There are slightly enlarged outer bay ground-floor windows, with modern slated canopies. A narrow centre ground-floor window possibly replaced the former entrance. Varied glazing is used. There are substantial end stacks encased in modern render, a slightly bellcast slate roof and small scroll skewputts. The interior was remodelled in circa 1950. There is an associated steading to the West of the house.
