Full Description
Remains of a United Free church depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition shows the church with a two-compartment building, annotated as a school, to the northeast. The OS Name Book (describes the school as a free church school with no endowment, belonging to the Free Church Establishment which provides its support. On the 2nd edition map the church is annotated U.F. Church, the school annotated as a hall. On a 1965 OS map it is named as West church buildings. The buildings are now unroofed. Site visit by S Farrell in June 2021 recorded both buildings in a ruinous condition. The school a single storey with four windows and a single doorway, rubble built and harled, the slate roof now removed. There are chimneys at both gables and a cast iron skylight and a later, possibly later dormer in the roof. The church is harled over rubble and brick, with a small attached house, also harled with chimney to the northeast, slate roof and cast iron guttering.
