Full Description

War memorial to the Gordon Highlanders, built by Sir George Washington Browne in 1921, with the soldier by Arthur George Walker. It is one of three war memorials set within the Keith Memorial Garden (see also NJ45SW0067 and NJ45SW0068). It stands on a two stepped plinth, enclosed on three sides by a low wall. The square plan sandstone base is stepped slightly at its base and top. The front face bears a carved wreath and the dedication. The sides have bronze plaques listing the regiment's battle honours. On top of the plinth is a bronze statue of a Gordon Highlander in kilt and bonnet, with rifle at the ready. The battalion depot was in Keith. The memorial is generally in very good condition, although there has been some slight wear and chipping on the sandstone plinth. The memorial garden is enclosed with a tooled rubble wall and cast-iron railings, with entrances in each face flanked by simple ashlar gatepiers with shaped or pyramidal caps. A full transcription of memorial held in AAS Digital Archive.
