Full Description
Newmill War Memorial, built in 1922-23 and commemorating those from the Parish who lost their lives during World War I and II. The memorial is in the form of a 4-stage square plan clock tower in the main square of the village, constructed of tooled rubble, with tooled ashlar dressings. It has shallow pedimented advanced ground floor bays, linked by a continuous string course with plaques on 3 faces and an entrance in the fourth face. There are narrow multi-pane windows in the centre of each of the second and third floor faces, and a clock face in each elevation of the corbelled upper stage under crowstepped and finialled gablets. The whole is topped by a pagoda-type cupola with a slender metal spiked ball finial. The architect was F. A. Robertson, Keith, and it was built by W. A. Donald of Broadrashes with some additional help from local volunteers. A full transcription of the memorial is held in the AAS Digital Archive.
